Training
With such a variety of situations and incidents that the team are required to deal with, training is wide
ranging and thorough. Skills such as navigation, first aid, casualty handling, drug administration and ropework
are covered on a regular basis. Many members are also practised in search management and incident control.
New members currently undergo an 9-month training programme with sessions both indoor and outdoor taking place on a weekly basis. Regular team training, for 'full' team members, locally takes place twice a month and team members also attend regional and national training events to share skills and experience with other teams.
SARDA handlers in addition attend monthly national events and weekly local training events in a further demanding programme of training and assessment.
